Upcycling is the practice of creating a usable product from waste or unwanted items or adapting an existing product in some way that is useful or creative, but most importantly, adding value to the product. The most essential purpose of upcycling is reducing waste and improving the efficiency of resource use. Upcycling is designed to work in opposition to consumer culture, encouraging people to think of new and innovative ways to use things, instead of simply buying new consumer goods. It also benefits the environment, by promoting reuse over discarding whenever possible.
